Orpa Hunt

Have you ever dreamed of hunting in Africa?

Maybe you want to go, but have never booked a trip because you didn’t have enough information.

If that’s the case, then I can help you out because I recently came back from a hunt in Namibia that far exceeded all of my expectations.

I booked my trip with Dirk Smit of Orpa Hunt in the 617,750-acre Ngaramgombe Conservancy in northeastern Namibia. Dirk operates a 101,311-acre game and cattle farm.

There are many, many things to like about hunting at Orpa, but let tell you just a few. Dirk only takes one party at a time, so you will have the entire farm to yourself. And you won’t believe the game you will see. There are about 20 different animals to hunt on his farm, including leopards and cheetahs, and he has access to neighboring lands where there are more different animals to hunt. The point is at Orpa you can hunt pretty much whatever you are interested in.

Trophies

Another great attraction is cost. For about the same amount of money you’d spend to shoot a trophy elk out West, you can shoot three or four different trophy antelope in Namibia. And Orpa has some of the lowest daily rates and trophy fees you’ll find anywhere in Africa.

And if you’d like to get up close to such iconic animals as elephants, lions and giraffes, Dirk can run you up to Etosha National Park where photographing these wildlife species is a sure thing.

Orpa accommodates both rifle and bow hunters and you can hunt the game however you want. There are excellent blinds scattered at waterholes all over the property or you can spot and stalk. I was absolutely amazed at how many trophy animals I saw as I hunted the property, and I’m talking true trophy animals.

This is also a remote location. Orpa is about 300 miles from the airport and there are no towns anywhere near it. The quiet is magnificent, with no highway sounds and seldom even an airplane’s drone overhead.

And did I mention the food? Dirk’s wife Thea is a superb cook and they will stock up on whatever food you like. But if I were you, I’d tell them I want the local fare. Thea will serve you some of the best wild game meals imaginable.

I also would note that while this is a working cattle farm, the game is not fenced in any way. That's because all of the fences are only 4-feet high. All of the larger game animals can simply hop over the fence and the smaller critters either squeeze through or go under. In other words, you’ll be hunting truly wild animals.

So, if this is your time to actually go to Africa, get in touch with Dirk. You can contact him through his website at: orpahunt.com. Be sure to say hello for me.
